About:

The Queens College swimming and diving and men’s tennis teams participated on a Midnight Run on November, 3, 2015. The run went very well and the group found that the overwhelming number of people that assisted were the NY Public Library, and that was a large number of women as well.

It was interesting to watch the reactions of the student-athletes as they gave out food and clothes. They really embraced the moment and took time to converse and show real interest. The coaches were proud of their athletes as they took charge and tried to accommodate the homeless with clothes that fit and making sure they had enough food.

Sophomore diver Kerry Ghanie stated, “Hearing about something or reading about an experience is never the same as begin there to do it. By going out and being there for people who are going through bad times, we get a glimpse into that side of life and fragility of our lifestyles and how so little can mean so much.”

Many of the student-athletes expressed how they would love to do the run again and ideas for providing more for the homeless. Currently there are 59,305 recorded homeless so we still have many more to help!
